WINTER WEATHER ALERTS for Saturday, January 24 through Monday, January 26, 2026
PARKING:
The Winter Parking Ban is in effect. No parking is permitted on any city street from 12 AM to 6 AM. Emergency parking bans are sometimes issued to enable snow removal at other times of the day. If an emergency ban is announced for the coming storm, it will be posted at southportland.gov and on our social media channels. Vehicles violating the parking ban are subject to ticketing and towing. Get email notifications of emergency parking bans: Sign up for "Public notices, updates and alerts" at southportland.gov/signup. TRASH & RECYCLING SCHEDULE CHANGE:
Due to the impending storm, curbside trash and recycling will be on a delayed schedule next week (the week of Jan. 26). Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday, Thursday on Friday, and Friday will be collected on Saturday. Reminder: Please barrels curbside in your driveway apron, at least 3 feet from any obstacles, by 7 AM on collection day. Bins on top of, or behind, snowbanks will not be collected.
FREEZING TEMPS:
Take caution in the extreme cold this weekend. If you observe or are aware of someone with medical needs during the cold snap, contact South Portland Fire-EMS. If you have a general concern, contact the South Portland Police Department. Always dial 911 in an emergency. If power outages should occur, the City may open a warming shelter. This will be announced on our website and social media channels. For anyone in need, there is an emergency overnight warming shelter in Portland this weekend. Visit the City of Portland website for info.
SNOW REMOVAL:
Do not place or push snow or ice into public streets, sidewalks, or any city property. This is prohibited by city ordinance. This includes snow moved by contractors—property owners are responsible for their contractor’s actions.
