[ARCHIVED] City Launches New Show, South Portland Forward

South Portland Forward

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The City of South Portland announces the launch of its new show South Portland Forward. The first ever in-house show produced by South Portland Community Television (SPC-TV), the monthly program will feature City initiatives and community stories that make South Portland unique. The premiere will debut exclusively on SPPA-TV Channel 3 on Spectrum cable and live stream online at www.southportland.gov/videos on Thursday, March 21 at 9 PM. The trailer is available to view here.

South Portland Forward is part of SPC-TV’s efforts to broaden its community outreach and engagement. The department has seen a major increase in viewership of municipal events in recent years, such as City Council and School Board meetings—an indication that the demand for local content is growing. Last fall, SPC-TV hired Community Outreach Coordinator Kaycee Hendricks to lead the production of the show, which highlights important City initiatives and community events, organizations, and more. The show aims to inform and engage the public, while inspiring community members to create their own content to show on South Portland’s Public Access channel.

“SPC-TV has seen great success with our municipal and education work. Our hope is that this new show will spark interest and excitement in the community access piece,” said Nathan Oliver, SPC-TV’s Station Coordinator. “We’d like to see more South Portland residents creating their own content for the channel. We’re here to help them do that.”

“South Portland is a wonderful community, and we’re excited to shine a spotlight on the people, places, and programs that make it that way,” added Moe Amaral, Community Television Manager. “Kaycee has already done a fantastic job working with City staff, committee members, and organizations throughout the City, and we’re excited to share her work with the South Portland community.”

Following its Thursday night debut, the premiere episode of South Portland Forward will be available on South Portland Community Television’s Vimeo channel on Friday, March 22, 2024. To learn more about the show or get involved with SPC-TV, contact spctv@southportland.org.
