Serve Your Community as an Election Clerk (2026-2028)

Message from City Clerk Jessica A. Hughes:

We are incredibly proud of the strong tradition of civic service upheld by our Election Clerks. For many years, these dedicated individuals have been the bedrock of our local democratic process, ensuring every election is conducted with integrity, accuracy, and efficiency.

Our Election Clerks are not merely temporary employees; they are committed stewards of democracy. They embody the utmost professionalism, ensuring strict adherence to procedures and maintaining the trust of the community in the results. The passion for democracy and their meticulous attention to detail concerning all facets of election law. This level of commitment is what guarantees the fair and secure election.

A letter has been sent to local political party committees for nominations to serve as Election Clerks.  As your City Clerk, I want to share, we are actively recruiting committed, impartial, and detail-oriented residents to serve a two-year term.  You will be on the front lines of democracy!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Voter Assistance: Greeting and directing voters, verifying registrations, and issuing the correct ballots.
  • Process Integrity: Maintaining accurate records,  providing ballot security, and upholding all election laws and procedures.
  • Polling Place Management: Assisting with the setup and closing of the polling place, ensuring a smooth and organized voting environment.
  • Impartial Service: Performing all duties with strict neutrality, offering courteous and effective service to all members of the public.

State Law (Title 21-A Sec. 503-A) requires that the municipal officers consider all nominations and appoint election clerks for a two year term by May 1st of each even-numbered year. All nominations are received by April 1, 2026 shall be considered for appointment of qualified voters. Election Clerks that are appointed will be selected and scheduled by the Warden before each election in accordance with Title-21-A Sec. 503-A(4)(5).
