SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The City of South Portland is pleased to announce the hiring of Robert P. Nadeau, Esq. as its next Director of Human Resources (HR). Mr. Nadeau replaces Stephanie Weaver, who is retiring this month after over six years with the City.
Mr. Nadeau, a Freeport resident, was one of six highly qualified candidates interviewed for the HR Director position. Since July 2023, he has served as Vice President of Human Resources for Twin Rivers Paper. Prior to this, he served for a year as the Corporate Director of HR for Cianbro Corp. Mr. Nadeau spent over six years working for the Maine Community College System, first as Chief Human Resources Officer, then as Chief Human Resources Officer and Deputy Counsel, and finally as the system’s Chief Counsel for Labor and Employment. He also spent two years working for the Maine Municipal Bond Bank and nearly 16 years serving as an attorney for Drummond Woodsum.
“I am very excited to be starting this position with the City of South Portland. I would like to work hard to continue to make the City an employer of choice staffed by people who endeavor to address the needs of this community,” said Mr. Nadeau. “I am very much looking forward to it.”
Mr. Nadeau earned a J.D. from the New York University School of Law, a Master of Arts in European History from the University of Maine, and a B.A. in History and English from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. He is admitted to the Maine Bar.
“Robert has a track record in the public and private sectors of working positively with employees, both union and non-union,” said City Manager Scott Morelli. “His legal background will be a tremendous asset in this position, but his people skills and even-keeled demeanor are just as important. Robert will be a great addition to the City’s leadership team and to the HR office.”
Mr. Nadeau will begin his duties on May 28, 2024. He will earn an annual salary of $124,664.
