Reimagining the South Portland Public Library

Join Library Director Kevin Davis at the Main Library on Wednesday, October 22 at 6:30 PM for a presentation and discussion about the past, present and potential future of the South Portland Public Library (SPPL). The session will include a brief history of the city’s library services to the present day and a review of the SPPL’s important role in both our local community and in the state. The discussion will then turn to the proposed new City Center at the former Mahoney School, including a review of why the Main Library is proposed to be located at this new “downtown hub for civic and community life.” Participants are invited to share their thoughts and ideas about the future of library services in South Portland.

Join us at the Main Library on Thursday, October 23rd at 2pm for a Panel Discussion on the current problems and future potential of your municipal buildings. Learn about the condition of the current City Hall, Hamlin, and Assessing buildings in this panel discussion with City Planner Milan Nevajda, City Clerk Jessica Hughes, Assessor Brent Martin, and Finance Director Ellen Sanborn. Staff will discuss how the problems at current facilities impact the services their departments provide, and the potential that a new facility could bring to the community.
