Main Street Crash on March 14, 2024

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – At approximately 9:30 PM on Thursday, March 14, the South Portland Police Department responded to a multi-car crash in the area of 576 Main Street in South Portland. Upon arrival, Officers found three vehicles with heavy damage and major damage to light poles, a bus stop shelter, and other property fixtures. Debris from the crash spread along Main Street for an entire block. Officers discovered one vehicle with a female passenger trapped inside. South Portland Fire Rescue extricated her from the vehicle and transported her to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Preliminary investigations show that a pickup truck was responsible for striking the other vehicles and causing thousands of dollars in property damage. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as 30-year-old Taylor Graffam of Portland, fled the scene on foot. He was later apprehended with the help of Portland Police K9s and South Portland Officers. Graffam had minor injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center by South Portland Fire Rescue. Graffam is being charged as follows (additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues): 

  • Operating Under the Influence
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident
  • Reckless Conduct
  • Aggravated Criminal Mischief
