Tax Information for Seniors

City of South Portland Senior Citizen Property Tax Relief Program applications now available - Seniors age 65+ who apply to the program and qualify receive a rebate on residential property taxes. The amount of the City rebate varies, with the max being $500. To be eligible, you need to have completed your 2024 taxes and have qualified for a tax credit under the State Property Tax Fairness Credit and meet residency requirements. If you qualified before, you have or will soon receive an application from the City in the mail. If you’re a first-time applicant, you can download the application or pick one up at the Treasury office at City Hall. View all eligibility requirements and more information.


Get free help filing your taxes from AARP - AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides free tax help to anyone age 50+ with a low to moderate income. They offer both in-person and online assistance. Tax-Aid volunteers are trained and IRS-certified, ensuring they are up-to-date on the tax code and qualified to assist you.     City Clerk's Office and Finance Office remain open until 6 pm on Tuesdays.
