SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The City of South Portland will cut the ribbon on the Russ Lunt Municipal Services Facility (929 Highland Ave.) on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 3:30 PM. The public is invited to attend.
South Portland City Council voted to change the name of the building in honor of longtime resident and former City employee Russ Lunt after he passed away this summer. Widely known as the “8th Councilor,” Russ was a staple at City Council meetings and champion for the City and especially the Public Works department, where he worked for 34 years.
“It’s very fitting that the Municipal Services Facility—home base for Public Works—will be named after Russ Lunt,” said Mayor Pride. “We hope his pride and enthusiasm for the department and its hardworking staff will continue to be felt well into the future.”
Mayor Pride, City Manager Scott Morelli, and Public Works staff will speak at the event. The City will serve refreshments and give a tour of the facility following the ribbon cutting.
