Previous updates:

The State has informed the City that it will continue its paving project work on Broadway/Casco Bay Bridge, Ocean St., Evans St., and Running Hill Road over the next few weeks. The State expects to pave Casco Bay Bridge the week of September 8. DOT has shared that the work will occur between 7 PM and 6 AM. Work is weather-dependent and the schedule could shift. The City is also continuing its paving work on local roads.

Many have asked about the Casco Bay bridge paving process and timeline. We thought it might be helpful to share what is involved in the various phases of the work of this Maine DOT project.

Regarding DOT’s paving of Casco Bay Bridge, there is a process that needs to happen in order to complete certain tasks and to make sure the infrastructure and roads last. They have to adjust structures, reset curbs, put in new ADA tactile plates and landings, crack seal all the bad spots, replace and raise electric pull boxes, reset valve boxes, fix drainage, grade extremely bad spots, reset curb to expand traffic islands and more. In order to do all this they need to mill the road. The State has informed us that base paving will be the week of September 9th. Then they will raise additional structures to grade and finish with top coat and striping. The State is covering 100% of the project cost, and the City is not involved in this work. The State and their contractor are the ones who determine the duration of the project and what happens when. They have indicated that they are aiming for the work to be completed by mid-October.
