An electrical permit is required for any new wiring, including but not limited to services, lights, switches, outlets, appliances requiring outlets, hard-wired fans, motors, air conditioners, heaters, and smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors. The permit is issued over the counter at the time of application.
Only Maine licensed master electricians may draw the permit, which requires:
- A completed Electrical Permit Application.
- Current Maine Master Electrician license.
- Permit fee at time of application in form of cash or check. The minimum fee is currently $40. Please see the second page of the application form for rates.
- Work order number from Central Maine Power for new or replacement services.
