Starting June 1, city buildings will begin to reopen to the public.   For the month of July, there will be no major changes to the status of municipal building operations.

In all city buildings, physical social distancing will be observed and masks will be required to be worn for all staff and visitors.  If you do not have a mask, one will be provided.  Notices are placed at the entry of the buildings informing visitors of the building's policies.  If you do not feel well, please do not enter city buildings.

 
The Library, Community Center Pool, Gym and Track will remain closed until further notice.  The Library is operating curb-side pick up only. 

Playgrounds are open as of June 22, 2020.

Tennis courts are open as of May 15.  The golf course is open as of May 15.

All trails, parks, and Willard Beach remain open so long as proper social distancing can be maintained.

On July 1, 2020, the following buildings will be open by appointment only:

 

City Hall (25 Cottage Rd), EXCEPT for the Finance Office (starting July 1):

 

  • Traffic into City Hall is limited to the back entrance (facing Ocean Street).  Please park in our parking lot.
  • You will be allowed into the building at the time of your appointment.
  • Bathrooms are available to the public on the first floor only.   
  • City Hall will be open from 8:00am until 4:30pm Monday-Friday (no Thursday late hours). 
  • Passport appointments are not being taken at this time.
  • As of July 1, the Finance Office will begin taking customers without appointment.  Only three individuals will be allowed in the Finance Office at a time.  The door attendant will be monitoring traffic into City Hall. 
  • Social Services may be scheduled by appointment (207) 767-7617.

The following municipal buildings will open to the public starting June 1, without appointment:

 

Municipal Services Facility/Transfer Station (929 Highland Ave)

  • The public will be buzzed in to the facility, though no appointment will be necessary.
  • Only one visitor at a time will be permitted inside, and 6' social distancing must be maintained if waiting to enter.
  • At both Municipal Services and the Transfer Station, appropriate face coverings will be required for visitors. Staff who come within 6' of the public or other employees will also be required to wear a mask and other personal protective equipment as needed.
  • A residential or contractor vehicle permit will once again be required to enter the Transfer Facility, effective June 2. Vehicle permits can be obtained at the Municipal Services Facility without an appointment (or at City Hall, by appointment) if you don't yet have yours.

 

Water Resource Protection (111 Waterman Drive)

South Portland Community Center (21 Nelson Road)

  • The front desk will be open for program registration, purchasing golf passes, accepting payments, etc.
  • The walking track, gym, pool remain CLOSED until further notice.
  • Starting July 1, front desk hours of operation will be: Monday – Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.
  • Please consider doing business online at www.sopoparksrec.com if possible.
  • The desk area will look different as we have added safety shields.
    Traffic into the Community Center is limited to the Nelson Road side only (doors that face the High School). Nutter Road side doors will remain locked.
  • Bathrooms are available to the public on the first floor only.
