The South Portland Historical Society’s museum, known as the Cushing’s Point Museum, is now open.
**COVID-19 update: Based on our current level of staffing, the museum hours have been changed to Monday-Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Volunteer staffing will determine our open hours. We ask all visitors to wear a mask. Please help us keep our museum open by voluntarily wearing your mask for the safety and comfort of our volunteers. Thank you!**
Exhibits for the 2022 season include 100 years of Shipbuilding in South Portland (sponsored by Bath Savings Institution), Lighthouses and their Keepers, the Civil War, Sardine Factories, South Portland's harness racing tracks, and the History of Our Schools. Also, the featured rotating exhibit for this year is “Play Ball!, a history of baseball in South Portland”. The Play Ball! exhibit is sponsored by the Marc Gup team at Keller Williams Realty, along with Noyes Hall & Allen Insurance and Town & Country Federal Credit Union.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Society is still seeking volunteers to help run its museum and gift shop. If you like history and enjoy meeting people, please check out our Volunteer Opportunities.
To find the museum, take Broadway east to the ocean, turn left onto Breakwater Drive, then turn right on Madison Street that leads right into the park. The museum is free, although donations are very welcome. We also encourage residents to support the historical society and museum by becoming a member of the Society. For information on membership, please visit our Membership page or our South Portland Historical Society Facebook page.
We hope to see you at the museum this year!
