Exhibits for the 2019 season include 100 years of Shipbuilding in South Portland (sponsored by Bath Savings Institution), Lighthouses and their Keepers, the Civil War, Sardine Factories, South Portland's harness racing tracks, and the History of Our Schools. Also, the featured rotating exhibit for this year is "Riding the Rails: A History of Trains and Trolleys", sponsored by Town & Country Federal Credit Union, Noyes Hall & Allen Insurance, Eaton Peabody Attorneys at Law, and the Marc Gup team at Keller Williams Realty.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Society is still seeking volunteers to help run its museum and gift shop. If you like history and enjoy meeting people, please check out our Volunteer Opportunities.
To find the museum, take Broadway east to the ocean, turn left onto Breakwater Drive, then turn right on Madison Street that leads right into the park. The museum is free, although donations are very welcome. We also encourage residents to support the historical society and museum by becoming a member of the Society. For information on membership, please visit our Membership page or our South Portland Historical Society Facebook page.
We hope to see you at the museum this year!
