Due to the pandemic, the South Portland Historical Society’s museum at Bug Light Park is closed. The health and safety of our volunteers and patrons is our top priority; the museum will remain closed until such time that it is deemed safe to open. Please check back here for updates.
When the museum opens, the featured rotating exhibit will be “Play Ball! A History of Baseball in South Portland.” In this exhibit, we will explore our community’s long tradition of baseball, from early business, military and community teams, to Little League and school baseball teams. We’ll also take a special look at several South Portland boys who chased their dreams and made it all the way to Major League Baseball.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Society is still seeking volunteers to help run its museum and gift shop. If you like history and enjoy meeting people, please check out our Volunteer Opportunities.
To find the museum, take Broadway east to the ocean, turn left onto Breakwater Drive, then turn right on Madison Street that leads right into the park. The museum is free, although donations are very welcome. We also encourage residents to support the historical society and museum by becoming a member of the Society. For information on membership, please visit our Membership page or our South Portland Historical Society Facebook page.
We hope to see you at the museum this year!
