South Portland Public Works is dedicated to providing a comprehensive variety of services for the welfare and safety of the South Portland community. We handle tasks such as street and sidewalk maintenance, street sweeping, snow plowing, debris removal from storm basins, and oversight of rubbish and recycling collections. We operate the city’s transfer facility. The garage division repairs and maintains our fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. Our sign shop is responsible for installation and maintenance of all street signs, traffic signs, linestriping and graffiti removal.

Parking Ban
By ordinance, the City of South Portland maintains a winter parking ban. The ban prohibits parking on all city streets from December 1 to April 1, between 12 midnight and 6am. In the event of inclement weather, parking ban hours may be extended at the City’s discretion.
The City does not currently provide a designated public parking area for off-street parking.
If your vehicle was parked in violation of the ban and has been towed, please contact the Police Department at 799-5511, ext 8575, for information regarding recovery of the vehicle.
