Employment Opportunities

Looking for a career?  The City of South Portland is hiring for several positions.  View the current job openings and learn how to apply online here.
On October 27, the City of South Portland held a ribbon cutting ceremony and officially switched on the City's solar array at 929 Highland Avenue. The 2,994 photovoltaic panels that sit atop our capped, former landfill are expected to generate 1.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. That's roughly 12% of the electricity used by City and school facilities!

COMMUNITY MEETING NOTICE
AVESTA HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PLANS

Avesta would like to invite anyone who might be interested to join us on Wednesday, November 8th from 6:00 PM – 7:30PM in the Brick Hill Heights’ community room (80 Brick Hill Avenue) to discuss Avesta’s latest development plans for a potential mixed use building at 586-600 Westbrook Street. Many of you will be familiar with this site from the recent West End Neighborhood Master Planning process. The building calls for brand new locations for Le Variety store and The Hub along the ground floor with mixed income apartments on the floors above. Before submitting the project to the City for review we want to have an opportunity for the neighborhood to see what is being proposed and provide us with any feedback.
The City of South Portland will hold its annual Household Hazardous Waste/Electronic Waste Collection Event for South Portland Residents on Saturday, November 18th from 9am-1pm. This year the event is being held at the City’s new Public Services Facility located at 929 Highland Ave. The event is free and open to all South Portland residents (who will be asked to show proof of residency).
Wednesday, November 15, 2017, 6-8PM
SPLT Annual Meeting & Social
Fore River Brewing, 45 Huntress Ave

South Portland Land Trust members and other members of the public are invited to attend our social gathering and annual meeting. It's a great opportunity for SPLT members and non-members alike to get to know each other, hear a great presentation, and learn more about what we do and how we function as an organization.  University of Southern Maine Professor of Environmental Literature, Dr. Owen Grumbling will give a talk about the intersection of human and wildlife needs for land conservation.  Dr. Grumbling received lifetime achievement awards from the US Environmental Protection Agency in 2009 and from the Maine Coast Heritage Trust is 2015.

There will be social time and refreshments as well as a short business meeting to elect new members to the board of directors.

In order to help us get an idea of how many guests we can expect, please RSVP to sopolandtrust@gmail.com. You don't need to register or commit, but we need help deciding how much food to bring!  Invite your friends on Facebook!
