Employment Opportunities

Looking for a career?  The City of South Portland is hiring for several positions.  View the current job openings and learn how to apply online here.  
Election Workers are needed each election to work at the polls, distribute ballots, check in incoming voters, tally votes (as needed), and help the Warden maintain general order in the polling place.  These are paid positions and workers receive full training before each election.   If you would like to serve as an Election Worker, please fill out and application here and return it to the City Clerk.

The City of South Portland reinstituted Sunday Bus Service on September 11, 2016.  Sunday service had not been provided since 1991 when budgetary constraints caused its cessation.  Ridership on Sunday’s Bus Service was 178 passengers which is a good showing for the first day of the service.

Board of Education - District Five
Notice of Vacancy and Advertisement 

Tappan Fitzgerald II has resigned from the District Five Board of Education seat effective September 13, 2016. The City Council will appoint a resident from District Five to fill this seat. The appointed District Five member will serve until the Inauguration the first Monday in December 2017 when the candidate who wins the District Five race in the November 2017 General Election is sworn in to fulfill the unexpired term ending December 2018.

If you are interested in being appointed to this seat please submit with your application, a letter of intent and a resume to the City Clerks’ Office by October 4, 2016. The appointee must meet qualifications to serve, which include being a registered voter of the City of South Portland and a resident of District Five and remaining an inhabitant of the city while in office. Appointees must also comply with all applicable policies outlined in the Master Policy Book of the South Portland School Department, including policy BCA: School Board Member Ethics.

The Council will plan to interview candidates at a Special Workshop on October 17, 2016 and intends to appoint a member of the community to this seat at the regular October 17, 2016 Council Meeting immediately following the special workshop. Weatherization Program for Low-Income South Portland Residents
 
The City of South Portland’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is pleased to offer a residential Energy Efficiency and Weatherization program for a limited number of income-qualified residents of South Portland.  This program provides a free at-home consultation with an energy efficiency expert, and a supply of free energy efficiency products. Improvements available may include pipe-wrapping, installation of programmable thermostats, caulking, and air sealing of windows and doors.  Insulation of attics and basements may be available if warranted.

Absentee ballots are expected in around October 12.  You may visit the Clerk's office at any time during normal business hours to register to vote, make changes to your voter registration, or request an absentee ballot be mailed to you once they are received.   Once absentee ballots are received (around October 12), in-person absentee voting will begin in the Lower Level Conference Room at City Hall.
