We encourage you to donate, recycle, or re-purpose items that are in good condition whenever possible. Bring unwanted items to one of the local businesses or drop-off locations below:

  • Clothing, textiles and shoes
    • Goodwill- 50 Market St and 555 Maine Mall Rd, South Portland accept dry clothing, textiles, and shoes in any condition for resale or re-purposing.
    • Fleet Feet Sports- 309 Marginal Way, Portland accepts gently used running shoes for donation to Planet Aid.
    • Lamey Wellehan- 456 Payne Rd, Scarborough accepts all types of gently worn shoes for donation to those in need.
  • Electronics
    • Goodwill also accepts donations of computers, printers and related equipment in any condition for free. For a full list of acceptable items, visit their website.
    • Staples- 443 Western Ave, South Portland offers a technology trade-in on some items and accepts a long list of electronics for free recycling. For a full list of acceptable items, visit their website.
    • Best Buy- 364 Maine Mall Rd, South Portland offers free recycling of a variety of household electronics, appliances and technology related items. For a full list of acceptable items, visit their website.
  •  Eyeglasses
    • New Eyes for the Needy accepts used eyeglasses by mail for distribution to the disadvantaged in developing countries.
    • Lions Club accepts recycled glasses for people in need in developing countries.

Items too large for your trash bin and/or not in good condition can be taken to the City of South Portland Transfer Facility at 929 Highland Avenue. The Transfer Facility accepts yard waste, batteries, rugs, carpets, broken furniture, or brooms. Fees may apply.
