2010 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory
The City conducted a municipal GHG emissions inventory in 2010 (using 2007 data) to create a baseline against which GHG emissions reductions can be calculated in order to show progress toward goals.
The inventory includes emissions from seven municipal sources.
The inventory revealed that 90.9 % of all municipal GHG emissions came from three sources and the largest source of our emissions is energy used in buildings, specifically for heat & hot water and electricity.
- Buildings – 59% (heat & hot water - 37.3%, electricity - 21.7%)
- Wastewater - 18.2%
- Vehicle Fleet - 13.7%
The remaining 9.1% of municipal GHG emissions came from the following 4 areas:
- Streetlights & Traffic Signals – 4.9%
- Transit Fleet – 4.1%
- Water Delivery – 0.12%
- Port Facilities – 0.02%
